I withdrew a small card from the pouch. The front of it was filled with lines of elegant, hand-lettered script.

The Guardian edition by Gerald Lund Religion Spirituality eBooks

Some of the twists in the, story were great and totally unexpected, which kept me moving forward, but I was soon VERY tired of the exact same thing that bothered me in the first book. To much of the same over and over. Escape catch, escape catch, the same idol threats and tons of sarcasm and some real silly mistakes that get them captured again. WHY? I think that the book would have been better if there had been fewer but more action packed escapes to make it more believable and less repetitive. Also, taking a trip to "get away from it all" then going back to the same place to we're just kidnapped and held hostage at gun point!! Then they are kidnapped again!
The ending was almost the best part of the whole book. I wish Danni's and Ricks relationship had blossomed into something more concrete at the end but the story speed up well. It was a tad baffling that this was a religious family it there was little recognition or thanks given to God for what happens. Praise went to the pouch. Would I recommend this book? It was a great idea, wonderful twists, has some great lessons but probably not except maybe for the young.

The Guardian edition by Gerald Lund Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

I loved this book!! He is an amazing author I've read nearly ALL of his books & highly recommend any and ALL of them!! This story was very different from other stories but very enjoyable( I've also read the 2nd book and am wondering if there will be a 3rd one ?!!!) It's really a book that you can't put down until you finish it -- highly recommended!!!
At first I had given 4 stars as I felt the story to be a little unrealistic. Then it dawned on me that it is just a story. To me, it was unusual for Mr. Lund to have a little fantasy in his writings like this story. Then I read the prologue and understood. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with this book and it's characters.

I liked the descriptions of the locations and the interaction between family and friends. The touches of love between a girl and boy.

I did not like the bad guys but this is in a good way as the author portrayed them as they should be....... villains.
Story is centered in Utah, mainly Lame Powell area, It is a story of good vs evil. A story of a family & a great friends, an enchanted old pouch, and an evil man who wanted possession of a great amount of money from the sale of a mine. Recommend!
I couldn't believe how a couple of people could cause so much damage to so many other people of what happened so many years ago. It was exciting reading with a
Comforting ending. Good book as usual. My favorite author. ĢERALD LUND. THANK YOU. Deanna Sommer.
If your looking for adventure, suspense and a fun read this is it. In a world filed with corruption and disheartening news thrown at us every day it's refreshing to read a book about an everyday family who have been given some extraordinary blessings/trials to overcome. The heroine has a great many lessons to learn but is wise enough, with a few trip up's along the way, to learn what she needs to in order to help her family. I love le guardian in this tale. We each have our own le guardian in our own lives, we only have to learn to recognize it, and follow it. You can call it intuition, a sixth sense what ever you chose. I call mine the holy ghost. Thank you for a great read and some needed inspiration. Debie Egley
I love Gerald Lund's style of writing. The Guardian was wonderful! I did not want to put it down. It is a story told by a 13 year old girl as she progresses thru to age 16. The pouch which she was given on her 13th birthday taught her to listen within herself as she grew to adult hood. I am a senior citizen, I enjoyed it.
Honestly, I enjoyed this book and would recommend the 2nd and concluding volume. I have read the nay sayers' reviews, many of whom recommend this book just for teen readers. I am a grandmother and found a book about teenagers rather refreshing and nice for a change. In addition, I have not been one to desire reading anything that has a fanciful plot, but was intrigued with the story line all along. I loved the "remembers" inside the pouch, which are good for any of us to live by. By the end of volume two, it was evident that Danni had begun to learn the lessons that the pouch had intended to teach. Teen years can be a difficult period of time. I appreciated that in the end, Danni learned about a power that was inside her and not in the pouch.
